The Cleveland Browns Have Cornered Themselves Into a Wall

Well, after one game in the bag we see that the Cleveland Browns might not be up to the task of making the playoffs.  The offense, even though they struggled, seemed to click at times.

But the problem that the Browns face is on defense.

With their struggling secondary, the Browns look terrible on defense.  They have two young corner backs, both who do not even have a full season underneath their belt.  Eric Wright, who was the Browns third pick in the 2007 draft seemed on his was last year but has struggled in the preseason and in the week one opener.  Brandon McDonald was the Browns fifth round selection in 2007.  He has come along way but what hurt the Browns was the loss of Leigh Bodden.  The reason why both Wright and McDonald were able to succeed last year was Bodden.  Bodden was the Browns top corner back who would always line up on the best receiver.  Even Ocho-Cinco called Bodden one of the best corners in the league.

Even though they signed Terry Cousin in the off season, they still have struggled.  I would not be surprised if the Browns try to sign Ty Law because they need a veteran presence to teach these young players how to play in the national spot light.

Another problem that the Browns face is at free safety.  Brodney Pool is our starting free safety but he has had tree concussions since joining the Browns in 2005.  The Browns do not know when he will be able to be back this year although it seems that he might be back this week against Pittsburgh.  If he is going to be out for a long period of time, I would think that Phil Savage would go out and sign John Lynch.  He is still a free agent and once Pool comes back, Lynch would be a great backup.  If the Browns want to make a serious run this year, then Phil Savage needs to make something happen to ensure that this team can go the distance.
