Greetings from the 2010 Holiday Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. Despite a wet and stormy week in San Diego, the sun is out and the players are ready to take the field in the much anticipated showdown between the Nebraska Cornhuskers (18) and the Washington Huskies.
Many seniors will be looking to bolster their NFL prospective resumes, most notably Washington quarterback Jake Locker and Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara.
The Huskers, who are shooting for their first 11-win season since 2001, will be facing a Washington team that is riding a three-game win streak and one that is much better than the team NU defeated 56-21 in September.
Stay tuned to this blog for updates throughout the game and any questions or comments can be submitted in the comment field below or sent to me on Twitter @DFEEN15_SD
Is this Qualcomm or a dog kennel? The Huskies have this place barking.
NU racked up 383 rushing yards against WU in their first meeting. Tonight: 92
Spirited goal line stand by Nebraska. Any doubt Sark and WU will try to punch it in on 4th & 1. I think not
It's the Chris Polk and Jake Locker show. The last run put the sophomore Polk over the 100-yard mark.
Not sure how many more hits Taylor Martinez can take. All Huskies right now.
Who says you need to pass the ball to keep the defense honest? Not Jake Locker, who powers his way to the end zone on a 25-yard TD run to extend the WU lead to 17-7.
Interesting parallels from the first half: Both teams with 8 first downs, both 3-for-8 on third down conversions, 34 NU plays on offense to 33 from WU.
If you would have told me Jake Locker would be 0-for-7 at halftime and UW would be leading 10-7, I would've called your bluff
Husky fans chanting 'Jake!' as he comes back on the field. Not a chance that was his last play in purple
Down goes Locker. Backup QB Keith Price taking practice snaps
Nebraska has a pulse. 10 play, 74-yard drive capped of by 15-yard pass from Martinez to Kyler Reed. 10-7 UW
It's true, Erin Andrews looks good all the way from the press box. 10-0 Huskies at the end of the first quarter.
They weren't kidding, the canon goes off for field goals too. 39-yard field goal by Erik Folk puts Huskies up 10-0. Martinez and Co. look to get offense out of neutral on this drive.
I know Qwest Field and the Seahawks are known for their 12th man. But Husky Nation has showed up in a big way.
Huskies strike first blood. 7-0 WAS. Capitalize on turnover with 2-yard TD run by tailback Chris Polk
Taylor Martinez doing what he does best, gets 15 on a 3rd & 16. Cornhuskers convert on 4th & 1
Go-Time Show-Time from the Q
The Bands are on the field! Good thing Cal & Stanford are nowhere near
Not very often you need the heaters on at the press box in San Diego. Tonight, it's much needed. An hour from kickoff, both teams warming up
