Sunday Without Brady Leaves Pats Fans on Their Backs

Alex PotterCorrespondent ISeptember 9, 2008

Readying for their next game Sunday, the New England Patriots had an extremely hard decision to make: stick with Matt Cassel or pursue Tim Rattay or Chris Simms. Yesterday, like I have previously reported, head coach Bill Belichick chose to stick with Matt Cassel and expressed his complete trust in him.

The Patriots will head out to the Meadowlands on Friday night with their heads on the shoulder of a quarterback who has more or less become a professional backup. This kid hasn't started a game since his senior year in high school, and now he is starting for a modern-day dynasty.

The New York Jets come off a nail-biting win in Miami on Sunday. The way that Bret Favre played was like the Favre of 2007, and that is something to be worried about come Sunday.

An example was the lob pass he threw up into the end zone for a touchdown on fourth down; the New England secondary is in big trouble, even with the recent acquisition of two time Pro-Bowl cornerback Deltha O'Neil.

Sunday's Prediction: Overtime
