NFL, AFC East, NFC North, New York Jets, Green Bay Packers, Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Stats

Well you knew there would be comparisons, they are unavoidable when a trade includes someone like Brett Favre.  The Packers put their trust in Aaron Rodgers and moved on from the Brett Favre era, but did they make the correct choice?  Since it is only Week 1 of the NFL season, it is impossible to make the call this early.  However, we can take a look at how each player faired with their new roles in Week 1.  While both Aaron and Brett saw their opponents come close to driving down with less than a minute left and handing them a loss, yet they both won.  Let us take a glance at some stats.

Passing Yards: Favre edges out Rodgers 194 to 178

Completions:  Rodgers completed three more passes at 18 compared to Favre’s 15

  • B/R Ticket Guide

Completion Percentage: Simple math, both threw 22 times and the above states who completed more. 81.8 to 68.2 Rodgers.

Touchdowns: Both have two for a tie.  Rodgers threw for one and ran in another, while both Favre’s were on passing plays.

Passer Rating: Favre wins the battle 125.9 to 115.5 A result of Favre’s touchdowns both being threw the air, and his yards per completion being higher.

Mobility: Aaron Rodgers wins this flat out, rushing six times for 36 yards, compared to Favre’s three rushes and two yards.

Final Analysis: Brett Favre was himself, taking chances and winning the game. Neither quarterback threw an interception.  While Favre is owned 100% compared to 89% in fantasy leagues on ESPN.com, owners may need to consider adding Rodgers as a reserve.  The Jets played a one win team from last year in the Dolphins, while Aaron Rodgers won against a team who barely missed the playoffs.  I believe that Rodgers had the better game, only because of the tremendous amount of pressure he had on his shoulders.  He is the unproven quarterback and came out and played a solid game.  Favre may have had to deal with the pressure of New York, but Rodgers had to see it from the whole NFL world.  Bottom line, the trade seems to be working well for both teams after Week 1, but do not get carried away. It is only one game.

Score after Week 1:

Favre 0 Rodgers 1

  1. Im doing an article chain JUST like this one. Your scoring system is more black and white. Completion %, yards, yadda yadda. mine is more of a personal opinion.

Good stuff, man. Lets compare our articles.

  2. I think QB rating determines it all. Favre=winner.

My mother has never been a very big Favre fan, and he's my hero. This last week she talked about how good he was, week after week I plan on comparing their stats and putting them on our fridge.

    1. QB rating is important...but stats are stats. You can drive your team all the way down the field and then you running back scores on a run team, and that doesnt show in your QB rating. I think the way a QB manages the game and plays determines who wins. I think they were pretty even, I just give more credit to the vikings than I do to the dolphins (I may be right I may be wrong). Lets just say that all that matters is if you win, so in week one they were both winners. I just think Rodgers did a better job taking everything into account.
