My fellow writers and I would like to take a minute to thank the people who allow us to be who we are—the people who not only support but encourage our need for this thing called sports:
Our significant others—our wives, husbands, boyfriends, and girlfriends.
They're the real unsung heroes of the sports world.
For me, that hero is my wonderful wife Emily, who does more than just tolerate my passion for sports.
Anyone who loves sports and has dated someone who doesn’t will surely agree when I say support isn't something to be taken for granted.
Don’t get me wrong—I was going to marry this woman regardless, but her acceptance of my sports jones was like the extra point after the touchdown.
Emily not only allows me to watch hour after hour of games, but also tries to take an interest in them with me.
She's invaluable to my writing too, as she provides a great sounding board for all my article ideas...and is even kind enough to proofread them for me.
So the next time you’re watching the game with that special guy or gal, take a second to let them know just how much you appreciate them for letting you be the sports junkie you are.
During the commercials, of course.
