Ohio State University has called a press conference today to discuss possible NCAA rules violations stemming from the "Ink for Ink" controversy.

Athletic director Gene Smith will meet with the media at Noon (EST), presumably to talk about the school's investigation into the allegations and rumors that some players on the football received free tattoos from the Columbus tattoo parlor in exchange for autographs.

Multiple reports out of Columbus on Wednesday said OSU was looking into what had been just Internet rumors a day before.

But the rumors appear to have some validity to them, and with the possibility that several players could be suspended for the Jan. 4 Sugar Bowl against Arkansas, there seems to be a heightened awareness in the OSU community that something happened.

The extent of which remains unknown, at this point.

The violations would fall under the NCAA's rules regarding improper benefits, i.e., a student-athlete cannot receive anything more than a normal student would.

Like a free tattoo just for putting his John Hancock on a picture.
