The Jets Have Picked Up Some Fuel: Brett Favre Leads Them Past The Dolphins

Could have this game possibly had any bigger juicy story lines than what it did? I don't think so. Unless of course your the Patriots and you find out that your MVP quarterback goes down for the whole season.

No instead this put new starting quarterback for the New York Jets, Brett Favre, against new starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, Chad Pennington.

So how did Brett Favre respond to the expectations to him coming to New York? How does 194 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions sound? He even threw in a vintage Brett Favre play for the fans. The end result of the Jets-Dolphins game was that the New York Jets won their first game with Brett Favre 20-14.

For those of you who wern't aware, the Jets should have been winning 10-7 at one point in the game. However the Kicker Nugent got injured as he kicked the field goal and missed. This later caused the Jets to have to go for it on 4th and 13 with 22 yards to go until the touchdown. So Brett Favre ended up having to lob up a prayer. And what was up with that beautiful play action to Thomas Jones for him to get his first touchdown ever as a Jet?

Enough about Brett Favre, how about Chad Pennington? So he threw an interception that caused them the game. However they had barley any time left, what do you expect. He almost led his team to victory. I mean he threw for 251 yards and 2 touchdowns. Of course there was that ugly interception in the endzone, but people shouldn't look at that.

What they should look at is that it seems like Chad Pennington is ready to lead the Dolphins to some victories and is going to do whatever it takes to do so. Kind of like a Brett Favre mentality if you think about it. The AFC East is starting to look strong, and what better time when Tom Brady gets injured for the rest of the season. After all, who would have thought the Buffalo Bills were going to DESTROY the Seahawks?

There were some things that should be mentioned however. The Jets offensive line still isn't the best. Yes, Thomas Jones did match the amount of touchdowns he had last season against the Dolphins. Yes he also rushed for 101 rushing yards. However Brett Favre got sacked three times. He was only sacked 15 times last season when he played for the Packers. The Jets offensive line is going to need to practice a lot more in order to protect their 38 going on 39-year-old quarterback.

Once that problem is resolved, I would expect to see the Jets to be an even better team. This was an interesting game to follow to say the least.

Next week the Jets take on the Brady-less Patriots. The Dolphins take on Cardinals. If you are expecting either of these two teams to win next week, you would be better putting money on the Jets against the Brady-less Patriots.
