And in the end, Weddle was a tad too short ...

We had Gates, we had LT, we had Merriman, we had Cro-man ... they had Jake and they have an opening day win. The Panthers had their way with the Chargers but needed the fingertips of a second year tight end and rocket arm of Delhomme to fly home 1 and 0. As a Chargers fan, I am used to such outcomes.  Lately, I had begun to think that the tide had turned and it was our turn. However, I was sobered watching today's game. We couldn't stop the run, couldn't get a big play when needed and couldn't get a stop when it counted. Where was the vaunted secondary? Ferocious pass rush? Epic special teams??? Floyd couldn't fall on the ball, Scifers muffed a punt and the Panthers trotted out some fat troll who parted the uprights on kickoffs.  When it was all said an down, the Chargers were inches from escaping on a day when they clearly were not at their best. The Panthers will win some games this year and the so will the Bolts. With Brady going down and the Colts sticking it up, it would appear that the time is right for the Chargers to make a serious Super Bowl run. Unfortunately, you have to take care of your own business first and someone forgot to tell the Panthers.  With a second week road trip to Mile High lurking and Favre on Monday night after that, there is no rest for the weary. The time to turn this around is now. Who's with me???
