The daily NHL Picks are back with seven games on schedule for this evening. The Colorado Avalanche aim to keep their strong run going against the Los Angeles Kings, while something has got to give in Washington as the Capitals take on the Devils with the two teams having won a combined four games out of their last twenty. Here are the picks.

Anaheim Ducks at Buffalo Sabres

Jonas Hiller carried the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-0 victory on Monday night in Boston with 45 saves. Couple that with the fact that the Ducks have won four of their last five against Buffalo and you have to like Anaheim’s chances of continuing their winning ways against the Sabres.

Pick: Ducks 3 Sabres 2

Calgary Flames at Columbus Blue Jackets

Both the Flames and the Blue Jackets have struggled recently, especially on offense. A key trend of note in this game is the fact that Columbus is 7-3 in their last ten games at home against Calgary. I’ll take the home team.

Pick: Blue Jackets 4 Flames 2

New Jersey Devils at Washington Capitals

The Capitals are starting to turn things around after a well documented losing streak. The Devils have had struggles of their own that have seemed to follow them all season long. Washington is a much better team than New Jersey, and they are playing at home. There is no reason to believe New Jersey will win this contest.

Pick: Capitals 5 Devils 1

St. Louis Blues at Atlanta Thrashers

The Thrashers over the Blues is my lock of the night. Atlanta is on fire, St. Louis is struggling, and the Blues do not play well on the road. The Thrashers should cruise.

Pick: Thrashers 5 Blues 2

Montreal Canadiens at Dallas Stars

Dallas is emerging as an elite home team in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Canadiens have only won one road game in their past six. This is a great spot for the Stars.

Pick: Stars 4 Candiens 3

Los Angeles Kings at Colorado Avalanche

This game is tough to get a read on. The Avalanche are on fire, but the Kings are a solid team that isn’t playing poorly by any stretch of the imagination. This is the final game of Los Angeles’s five game road trip, and I get the feeling that they may already be focused on heading home with a big game against division leading Dallas waiting for them.

Pick: Avalanche 3 Kings 2

Edmonton Oilers at San Jose Sharks

San Jose has owned Edmonton recently, winning eight of the last nine meetings between the two squads. Edmonton has not had much trouble playing on the road recently, but they are over matched in this contest as the Sharks finally seem to be turning things around.

Pick: Sharks 5 Oilers 2
