Carmelo Anthony: Nets Close to a Deal Bringing Superstar East
Carmelo Anthony was quoted in several media reports as saying he would like to play for the Knicks. However, it is another New York area franchise that is closer to bringing the Superstar East.
The New Jersey Nets appear to be the frontrunner in acquiring Anthony's services. There are other teams involved in the trade, which look to satisfy Anthony's demand to be surrounded with talent before signing a long-term deal with the Nets.
If a trade is achieved, many NBA officials feel it would significantly upgrade the Nets and possibly make them a playoff contender in the near future.
The Sporting News has this to add: "It’s not immediately known which other teams are involved in the talks, but the Nets are willing to send rookie forward Derrick Favors, the expiring contract of Troy Murphy, two or three first-round picks and $3 million to Denver for Anthony and Harrington. Other Nuggets and Nets players would likely be included too, according to the report. In fact, center Brook Lopez is the only Net who is not on the table."
