Tom Brady, Matt Cassel, Fantasy Football, Breaking News

In the first quarter of the Chiefs game, during a deep pass to Randy Moss, safety Bernard Pollard rolled into Brady's left leg. He was holding his left knee and stayed on the ground for a while.

He ended up needing help as he limped off the field. Matt Cassell, who took Brady's place,  led the team 98 yards on his first drive and threw a 10 yard touchdown pass to Moss.

The Patriots' system is very quarterback friendly and since news reports out of New England are that Brady's done for the season, Cassel is a must pick up for all fantasy leagues.

  1. Early speculation says it's a LCL sprain, which means Brady would be able to play with a brace.

I wouldn't suggest Cassel as anything more than an emergency for next week if your QBs are terrible.

  2. Ok well you're not a doctor nor on the field with the Patriots, so if he is unable to return to the game it obviously somewhat serious. I wouldn't just assume he'll be back.

    1. He didn't assume that Brady would be back...

He was only speculating. And if there is any injury dealing with the knee, I wouldn't put Brady back in the game until we knew for certain the extent of the injury. If he actually hurt his ACL or MCL you don't want him to risk further injury.

If I would have known that it was only an LCL sprain, I probably wouldn't have even put him back in even with a brace.

  3. Well he kind is assuming by saying "I wouldn't suggest Cassel as anything more than an emergency for next week if your QBs are terrible." Unless you know the extent of Brady's injury you should be suggesting not to to pick him up.

    1. So...do YOU know the extent? You say the dude's a "must" pick-up.

Is Brady out for next week, then?

All I relayed was what I heard, and Matt Cassel is not a very good quarterback, so he shouldn't be a top priority pick. Most people probably already have a backup on their team who is starting for someone else and bound to put up equal or better numbers, so they shouldn't have to drop someone just for Cassel.

  4. I happen to think Matt Cassel has a lot of talent. I always have ever since I saw him play in a week 17 game in 2005. By the way In fantasy football generally if a superstar is questionable for the next game, the backup always becomes a must pick up!!! But considering how quarterback friendly the Patriots system is, he is even more of a must pick up.

    1. Again, though, this is only assuming the team doesn't have a backup on their team (which they should).

Though I'll admit, if the MRI comes up bad tomorrow, Cassel will certainly become a viable option. Until then, eh, maybe not so much.

  5. Rumors out of New England are that he's out for the season.

  6. Cassel is a must pick if you don't have any other options on the wire. I lucked out in one league where no one drafted Jake Delhomme. Brady replacement...Check.
