Last night, the Orlando Magic managed to pull off two huge trades. One with the Phoenix Suns, the other with the Washington Wizards. The two trades saw many big names finding a new home. Here are the details on the two trades:

Trade Number One

Orlando Magic Receive:

Gilbert Arenas (G)

Washington Wizards Receive:

Rashard Lewis (F)

Possible Effects: Don’t be surprised if Jameer Nelson finds himself on the bench more. Although Nelson is still said to be the starter for the Magic, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Arenas steal the job from him and turn him into the backup PG.

 Trade Number Two

Orlando Magic Receive:

Jason Richardson (G)

Hedo Turkoglu (F)

Earl Clark (F)

Phoenix Suns Receive:

Vince Carter (G)

Mickael Pietrus (F)

Marcin Gortat (C)

Possible Effects: Look for decreased playing time for Robin Lopez and Channing Frye as Gortat takes over the starting center position.

Thoughts On The Impact These Players Will Have On Their New Teams

The Orlando Magic had some struggles defensively which caused them to lose basketball games and slowly fall down the standings. As a result, changes had to be made and boy where they ever. Vince Carter and Rashard Lewis, two of Orlando’s biggest stars, both found themselves on the move.

It will definitely be interesting to see Jason Richardson in Orlando and getting Turkoglu back will certainly make the fans happy. Earl Clark could be a good player off the bench for Orlando.

Marcin Gortat could stir up some controversy at the Center position, as previously mentioned. It could lead to Lopez or Frye being unhappy and departing. Pietrus will be an interesting fit into the mix too.

I am a bit of a skeptic when it comes to Vince Carter. I’m hoping that in a perfect world he and Steve Nash will become quite the duo to be messed around with, but with Carter you can never be so sure.

Despite all of the problems with him in the past, Gilbert Arenas is still a top-notch PG. He’s getting a fresh start so expect him to seize the opportunity and rise anew in Orlando, possibly becoming the starting PG.

In Washington, don’t expect Rashard Lewis to be some sort of saviour and key addition that will spark the Wizards, but don’t expect him to be completely invisible either. However, it won’t be to long before we’ll be saying, “Lewis who?”

The new look Magic, Suns and Wizards all debut tonight. Orlando will take on the Hawks, Washington will battle Charlotte and Phoenix will clash with rivals, San Antonio. Things are definitely going to be interesting!
