What an interesting -- some might say motley -- crew of coaching candidates that are rumored to be in the running for the Maryland job now that Ralph Friedgen is out after 10 years at the helm.

Former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach is apparently at the top of the list. Leach had great success leading the Red Raiders program, until his controversial firing last year. So he brings some baggage.

Other candidates rumored to be interested, or that Maryland was interested in, include New Mexico coach Mike Locksley and former Notre Dame and Washington coach Tyrone Willingham.

Is athletic director Kevin Anderson kidding? Locksley just finished his second 1-11 year at New Mexico and the only reason he's still coaching is because the school refuses to buy him out.

Willingham? Not sure he has it any more.

That leaves Leach.
