Déjà vu All over again for South Florida?

Could this be the year for the Bulls to make another jump?  Think back to 2007; when did the USF Bulls get their jump start?  They started making national headlines after the overtime win against a good Auburn team in a week 2 away game.  This year?  They beat a good UCF team, also in a week 2 away game in overtime.

Remember what else helped the focus attention on the Bulls?  Remember the Friday night home game against West Virginia?  This year, they play against the ranked Kansas Jayhawks in a Friday night home game.  The West Virginia game last year was on ESPN2, as will the Kansas game this week.

With a win against Kansas, the Bulls have a very good shot at being undefeated heading into the first Big East game of the season, a Thursday night game at home against the underachieving Pittsburgh Panthers on ESPN.  Remember what happened last year?  The Bulls played a Rutgers team that also had high preseason expectations that had been ruined early in the season.

With the similarity possibilities between last season and this season, it is not a stretch to expect this South Florida team to be in the top 10 during the middle of this season.  If they can handle the pressure of the target on their back better than last year, watch out for this team.  All of the other contenders in the Big East have already faltered.  The only other Big East team with a goose egg in the loss column is UConn, which was not a team many figured would win the conference.  The Bulls will once again be the top-ranked team in the Big East this season.

Sure, being a student makes me biased towards them, but the Bulls are still a great story being in their 12th year of existence.  If they can get past Kansas this Friday night, they should be favored in the rest of their games, as long as they keep winning.  Keep your eyes out for another magical season where, with Matt Grothe at quarterback, anything can happen.
