When was the last time the New York Jets had a great quarterback?

Well—1969.

Yes, it really has been that long.

Brett Favre arrives with a lot of well deserved hype, both for his performances throughout his career and for the season he had last year.

Favre is expected to be the "savior" of the New York Jets and fans can only hope he meets those expectations with similar numbers to last year. He produced 4155 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.

If Brett Favre can produce such numbers again, two particular players will benefit from his performances and all of the offseason moves the Jets made.

The first is Thomas Jones. With the beefed up offensive line, Jones should produce more yards and touchdowns. With a much better QB behind center he should also become a target in the receiving game.

The other player I expect to perform much better this year is Jerricho Cotchery.

Cotchery has been in the league since 2004, when the Jets drafted him in the third round. His total numbers have steadily improved, with a career high of six touchdowns in 2006.

Although he had only two touchdowns last season, Cotchery should continue to progress with Brett Favre throwing to him.

Last season the defense spent an average of 31:59 on the field. That number must improve as well.

The Jets' new offense must control the clock and maintain possessions to keep the defense off the field.

My prediction for this season is a second place finish in the division, and a Wild Card playoff berth with an 11-5 record.

I expect the AFC East to send three teams to the playoffs: Patriots, Jets and Bills. But the Jets must begin the season with a win against a much weaker Dolphins team.

    Nice article, Michael.

Expectations are really high this year. I thought we'd have a great season since before the Brett Favre trade. The easy schedule we have this year makes 11-5 very possible.

If everything clicks and we pull off some upsets against the high-powered teams, I think 12-4 or 13-3 is very possible.

It is so friggin weird to see a ball coming out of a JETS Q-B arm and being sent down the field for 60 yards with a vengence!
