WEC 36 Postponed: What Might Happen Come November

Kevin CurranSenior Analyst ISeptember 6, 2008

WEC 36 will be moved back to November 5th  from its original air date  scheduled for Wednesday, September 10th.

This card would have featured a big matchup between featherweight superstar Urijah Faber and American Top Team member, and top notch wrestler Mike Brown. Brown has shown his resiliency against top submission fighters like Jeff Curran. His wrestling by many was viewed as a potential problem for wrestler in his own right, Urijah Faber. I think Mike Brown has the potential to derail the Urijah bandwagon.

Also, this card featured a big matchup between new made rivals Chael Sonnen and Paulo Filho. Having seen the first fight and seeing both fighters multiple times, I have to take Chael Sonnen. He is more complete. He has good submission defense and good striking. Also, he has screamed in fights before, like when he fought against Babalu, which was at 205, so that was NOT a verbal tap in the first fight. Just the fact that he could duel babalu in the UFC at 205 shows the kid has balls and toughness. At 185 he is a very solid threat to anyone he faces. Also, he was an all american level wrestler. For this reason I take Sonnen.

The reason for the postponement is the oncoming hurrican Ike. Ike is threatening and as a precaution, the WEC have formally decided to postpone the event.
