Show 65: Week's Highlighted News
Training camp is coming! Woo! Can't wait. A co-worker advised against me publicly releasing my predictions for the regular season this early, which I agreed with him on, considering we have plenty of free agents to go around, training camp is still yet to come, and preseason needs to be dealt with.
So, the predictions editions will likely be out somewhere around Sept. 27-28. Keep an eye out for that! I'll try and make my way out to see some of the Washington Capitals' training and on-ice drills during the camp dates at their Arlington, VA facility.
Who knows, maybe I can score an interview or two! Highly unlikely, I'm guessing, but I'll make an effort, I swear.
Funny enough, I'm considering having Eklund from Hockeybuzz.com come onto the show. I know, I think I just saw all of your jaws drop. I am a bit critical of him, but I'd like to give the show some "umph" when I feel it needs to be improved.
So, yes, I am stating that maybe having him on could somehow improve what I have. Haha. Stay tuned for the jury's decision on that one.
By the way, if you would like to plug my audio podcast into your iPod or podcast extraction software (for lack of a better word), here's the site.
This segment talks about the headlines in the past week since the last show. Some excitement building in Montreal for the 100th season, and also Mats Sundin talks begin in Toronto in person! Woo, development!
Brent Burns, Alex Pieterangelo, and Trevor Linden are in the mix in this segment, as well!

hey!
thanks for the updates,
a few things I found out laterly as well, the outdoor game: possibilities at the olympic stadium. about the date, u might be right. 2009, not before.
mats sundin situation: he had a talk with Bob Gainey. gainey made it clear that he still has a place, and all that stuffs. for sundin, the hardest thing is actually to leave toronto. and about the offer, i quote gainey's answer :"he didn't say no"

What I'm interested to see is if Sundin is willing to admit that he is considering the deal offered by the Canucks. Gainey, Fletcher, and Gillis seem to be the front running trio, but one has to think, with this stall out in information, maybe it is down to a decision of one team versus retirement. My mind is telling me he's going with either Toronto or retirement. He has only known two teams in his whole career, and I'm not sure he is willing to adapt into another.
He is an icon in Toronto, and I dare to do this again, but the parallel with the Favre situation. Can we see him in a Habs sweater? Favre was initially rumored to go to the Vikings, in the same division. Sundin rumored to go to the Habs, same division? Talk about trading sides in a civil war! I can't see it happening, but I have always been one who loves the unexpected coming to be. If Sundin goes to Montreal, it would be a shock. If he goes to Vancouver, he will simply be spreading the love from one end of Canada to the other. If he retires, he will probably go down as one of the greats without a Stanley Cup. He has quite a track record and it can be argued that he will go out with a sense of pride in his accomplishments, but should he retire...?
I say 'No'. The modern face of the Toronto Maple Leafs needs to agree to terms for a 3 yr. deal. If he ends up with Montreal, the Habs may continue the sequence of obtaining a Stanley Cup at least once in every decade. After all, this is, in fact, their last shot at continuing the trend, and what a year to win it in! It may be just under 6 months from the exact date of the 100 year mark, but it would symbolize something amazing. So, is Sundin what they want to achieve this? Quite possibly.

agreed, sundin could be the missing piece in the canadiens puzzle. but as u say, it would be a big shock if he comes to Montreal.
at the same time, I guess it is time for Montreal to move on till he makes up his mind. Of course, a lot of things depend on him in the organization. but now he knows they are still waiting, the contract and everything. it should be time for the rest of the crew to focus on the camp.
nothing was said about the canucks. for sure, it would be a more logical choice (apart from toronto of course). but the guy is apparently back in europe today. so he just met fletcher and gainey in the meantime.
we will see how it goes,
by the way, did u get any insights on Patrick ROy's jersey retirement? I tried to look for new info on the matter but I guess we gotta have to wait on that case

This has been a summer of all rumors and small transactions following all the activity from the free agency deadline, but the speculation was that it is going to happen. I'm going to be a bit more cautious when it comes down to these types of rumors and reports because it appears another one has come through about Linden's number being retired. I like to look into multiple sources of information before reporting and discussing, but primarily, the only chatter-centre has been TSN. Eklund at Hockeybuzz likes to comment on anything that could be controversial and stirs the pot too much (i.e. Gaborik to Buffalo, and dated predicted moves like Drury to LA and Briere to Montreal). His information is far from accurate, but people look to it as gospel most of the time.
It's unclear on whether or not this Roy jersey report is true because it comes at a time where controversy has surrounded him with his son's on-ice fiasco (notably instigated by none other than father Patrick). It may be a good move to get it done and give due respect on his career to clear the focus from his recent coaching antics. Rumor, truth, or mere hopeful speculation, we're going to have to wait and see what comes of this.
