Farewell to Zach Hayes

On Sept. 19, 2005, a new voice entered Fire Brand and promptly said, “I love this time of year, when every game is a must win and every loss means flipping over the coffee table and pouring boiling water down your throat. Good times.”

Zach wrote 290 articles (excluding game threads) during his time here. He was, in my opinion, one of the best baseball writers I have read. He is excellent at writing prose and had an incredible sense of humor as well, as evidenced by his parody of popular sports journalism figures on the potential trading of Manny Ramirez.

Zach recently had to step down as he is starting his senior year in high school and between that, his job, and helping with Barack Obama’s campaign (politics is his other passion), he wasn’t able to devote the full measure of time to Fire Brand that he felt Fire Brand needed.

I’m sure I’m not alone when I say: Zach, you’ll be missed. Come back soon.
