Joe Smith Lakers: Will Veteran Forward See Action in Lakers Lineup?
The Joe Smith trade to the Lakers is almost official now, thanks to a tweet from Houston's new small forward, Terrence Williams.
Los Angeles sent shooting guard Sasha Vujacic to the Nets in exchange for Smith, and got a $5.4 million trade exception along with the veteran forward.
Smith was once an effective player in the NBA, but the 35-year old has been declining for years now. He averaged just 6.3 minutes per game in four games this season, but he does give the Lakers a bit more depth on their front line.
And, as we all know, the Lakers could definitely use another body to help spell center/power forward Pau Gasol.
In short, expect Smith to see his five to six minutes per game more consistently than he did in New Jersey, but don't think he'll be playing 20-25 minutes per game, or even 10 minutes per. He's mostly an expiring contract and a trade exception for the Lakers.
