Los Angeles Lakers Send Sasha Vujacic to Nets for Joe Smith
The Los Angeles Lakers took part in a three-team trade Tuesday that sent shooting guard Sasha Vujacic to the New Jersey Nets in return for veteran forward Joe Smith and a trade exception.
Smith, a longtime NBA journeyman, gives the Lakers another body to throw into the mix at center and power forward to help spell Pau Gasol, and provides them with an expiring contract and a hefty trade exception to help them pull off a deal, while allowing them to trade away a player who had not been performing well and had seen his playing time severely cut in 2010.
The Nets also sent small forward Terrence Williams to the Rockets, and received a pair of draft picks in total. All in all, the deal looks like a good one for the Lakers, who free up cap space and trade space, and help clear the logjam at the guard position on their bench.
