Vancouver Canucks general manager Mike Gillis appeared in-studio on the Pratt and Taylor Show on the TEAM 1040 and spilled the beans that “something special” is planned for the Russian Rocket, Pavel Bure.

“We are going to do something special, not [going to] tell you what it is,” said Gillis.

“Pavel [Bure] is among the number of people that we are actively discussing [and] considering, in some form or another. I’m not going to tell you what it is, but he’s definitely part of that group.”

The segment began when Don Taylor voiced his opinion that if Markus Naslund’s jersey went up, Pavel Bure’s should as well, because he “captured the imagination of the city.”

Gillis would respond by basically banging the drum of Markus Naslund over Bure, so don’t expect a jersey retirement.

Ring of Honour seems likely, but will it happen this year?

There are two Ring of Honour dates left (January 24 and March 14) and there have been no indications from the Canucks regarding who they could be.

It has been wildly assumed that one of these dates will be used to induct Bure, but the fact they are still “actively discussing [and] considering,” suggests nothing has been finalized yet.

However, back at the 2010 Summer Summit, right before the video was to air to announce the celebrations for the 40th season, as an aside Jim Robson remarked “Yeah, Pavel’s there too!”

A hint from Robson? He definitely would have been of the people consulted about potential inductees into the Ring of Honour.
