Has "Ol' Ball Coach" Steve Spurrier Lost a Step?

The following is something I wrote for the website that I call home, BamaNation.net.  I hope it's OK to share here.

Vanderbilt 24, South Carolina 17.  That's two wins in a row for the 'Dores vs. the Gamecocks, and this year proved it was no fluke.

Vanderbilt players heard the "f" word often after last year's victory over the Commodores, but this season they proved they were worthy.  Vanderbilt was the better team.  Bobby Johnson was the better coach.

Steve Spurrier looked different.  I can't quite put my finger on it, but he almost looked as if he was just going through the motions.

Has the Ol' Ball Coach lost interest?  Has one of the greatest offensive minds in college football history lost a step?

I realize the talent level at USC is far below what Coach Spurrier experienced at Florida, but lately it seems to me something is different.  I don't think he's thrown his visor in 15-20 games...and that's just not like him.

Has his passion for the game waned?  Has Steve Spurrier reached the point in his career where he is ready to hit the golf course and hang up his clipboard?

I am a fan of coach Spurrier, and I would hate to see him retire.  If I am wrong about my observation, I am truly sorry.  But something seems different about him.  Something is missing.

Could it be that he has lost a step—or could it be that he is just about done?
