Cliff Lee: Who Are The Losers With His Signing?

Cliff Lee is a member of the Phillies once again. Several teams are devastated with this news. Who are they and what does this signing mean for them?

Losers:

The Entire NL: Last year the Phillies were considered the class of the NL before a surprising loss in the NLCS to the Giants. Now that they have the most impressive pitching staff in baseball and a lineup that is among the NL’s best, it would be a monumental disappointment if the Phillies didn’t win the NL and go to the World Series next year.

The New York Yankees: As the team that many figured was the favorite to sign Lee, the Yankees have to be disappointed to miss out on Lee even at the price they were offering. Now the Yankees are on the verge of looking up at their archrivals, the Boston Red Sox, in the standings for the next few years.

The Texas Rangers: The Rangers won their first playoff series and advanced to their first World Series in 2010 due in large part to the contributions of Lee. The Rangers’ ownership made Lee their primary target this offseason and signing him would have made the Rangers perennial favorites in the AL West. Now it looks like the Angels have a chance to reclaim the AL West crown next year.
