Tressel told the team the story of a determined one-legged employee, when asked to do a task that his co-workers had failed, simply told his boss that “it will get done, and I will do it.”
Something in that sentiment struck a chord in Tressel and he has decided to make it the Ohio State mantra for the ’08 season.
Tressel awarded each senior player with a glass case of marbles. The case contained six gray marbles, five red marbles and one blue marble signifying the six home games, five away games and the final game against Michigan.

Every Friday of the season, the senior players will take one of their marbles and place it in a vase in Tressel’s office signifying they have done everything they can to prepare. The coach hopes that this exercise will put things in perspective for these young men, who are easy targets for getting swept up in all of the craziness that surrounds a team like the Buckeyes.
By placing their marbles in Tressel’s vase, the players are replicating the one-legged employees’ sentiment of “it will get done,” and promising to do everything in their power to do what they need to do to get it done in the upcoming game.
The man in the story has to overcome many obstacles, just as the Buckeye’s will have to this season, starting on Sept. 13 and ending hopefully with what they have failed to accomplish the last two years.
