Cam Netwon Wins Heisman in a Landslide
Cam Newton, Kellen Moore, Andrew Luck and LaMichael James were all in attendance. Yet only one player was really prepared to make a statement. What we all knew would happen did on Saturday evening.
Cam Newton won the 2010 Heisman Trophy in a landslide. The decision was expected, if not a bit controversial.
Newton has been by far the best player in the game this year. He has the ability to beat any team on any given drive. He has the arm to deliver a pinpoint pass and the legs to go down the field 80 yards for a score. He has it all.
But a few weeks back his father was implicated in a pay-for-play scandal. The investigation is still ongoing. Could this be another Reggie Bush fiasco? The Saints running back was recently discovered to have taken money while at USC. His Heisman Trophy was taken away.
While the implications were well known around college football, Saturday's event was celebratory. For one night, the sport held up Cam Newton as the best in the nation, nothing more and nothing less.
