The Heisman Trophy for 2010 has gone to Auburn's Cam Newton, ending once and for all months of speculation that the star quarterback's controversial season would leave him without college football's most prestigious piece of hardware

And if you happened to miss Newton's acceptance speech, I have to say that it was surprisingly emotional.

Thanks to our friends at SB Nation Atlanta, we have a couple highlights to throw your way.

After thanking God, who Newton acknowledged was the "head of [his] life," Newton broke down in tears when he tried to thank his father, Cecil Newton.

After a few brief moments, Newton regrouped.

"My parents do a lot of things behind the scenes that go unnoticed," he said, "and this is not an award that in my opinion has been won by my play this year. This is an award that was won when I came out [my mom's] womb. Thank you for everything you did for me."

Newton also thanked Auburn head coach Gene Chizik, as well as his teammates and other coaches. He ultimately ended by simply saying, "War Eagle."

On balance, you have to think that the one part of Newton's speech that will be perpetually scrutinized from this point on is the part where he says "my parents do a lot of things behind the scenes that go unnoticed."

I don't mean to rain on Newton's parade, but you have to think that the general response to that statement will be something along the lines of, "Yeah, no [bleep]."

I'm not saying that's my response, but it certainly does belong to somebody out there.
