Urban Meyer Press Conference: Florida's athletic director talks replacement
Foley said it wasn't just the sacrifices in the last six years that Meyer has made, referring to his time at Florida, but in building programs at Bowling Green and Utah before that.
Foley said he knew a couple of days ago, had time to think about it, and that he wasn't totally surprised with Meyer's decision. "It's all good," he said. "An outstanding coach is no longer going to be our coach. When you have a coaching change it can be like a divorce and get ugly. That's not the case here. It's as good as it can ever be. I'll be trying to replace one of the greats."
Foley joked that Meyer cost him a Christmas vacation last year and is costing him a Christmas vacation this year.
Wow, Foley just made a startling admission, saying that when he went to make a coaching hire the first time, when Steve Spurrier resigned, he wasn't prepared for "the scrutiny, the tracking of airplanes, that sort of thing. I'd like to think we'll do it better." Again, he was NOT talking about the actual hire of Ron Zook but the process itself and the scrutiny, especially on the internet, of passionate fans and thje media."
