Urban Meyer Press Conference: Florida is Florida and will be strong
"This is not a bare-knuckles situation," Meyer said, referring to his successor not finding the cupboard bare, perhaps as Rich Rodriguez found at Michigan after taking over for Lloyd Carr.
Meyer said he doesn't like leaving under these circumstances, and was hoping for a bette record.
He met with his players at 2 p.m. this afternoon and said he wanted to do it right, telling his seniors that ended up as one of the winningest classes at UF.
Meyer said he's received more than 175 text messages from former players.
He just said that the 2006 team was one of the top three or four teams in the history of the game.
Meyer said there's never a perfect time but this was about as good a time as any to step down. As for the dropoff in offense this year, he said "I saw a dropoff, not the dropoff. I'm not sure it's the time to discuss it all. It was a multitude of injuries to a lack of execution. There were many reasons."
