Canada Opens WJHC With a Win.
Team Canada Jr. opened their tournament with a very solid performance, a 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic.

John Tavares didn't waste any time in showcasing his skills, scoring twice during the game—including the first goal of the tournament for Canada. Matthew Halischuk scored the other goal for Canada, and Steven Stamkos grabbed three assists.

Goaltender Jonathan Bernier held the Czech republic scoreless, blocking all of the 44 shots that were sent his way. Bernier was especially effective during the first period, as the Czech tried everything they could to score the first goal of the game. The Canadian goaltender was chosen as the player of the game.

This was the 19th consecutive victory for Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships.

Today's other scores:
  • USA 5, Kazakhstan 1
  • Russia 7, Finland 4
  • Sweden 4, Slovakia 3
