The Osbourne/Pelini era has begun. It has begun with a solid win over the Western Michigan Broncos.
This was the first game of Bo Pelini's head coaching career. This was also the first game since Tom Osbourne took over as Athletic Director for the Huskers. Using an efficient offense and a determined defense to come out with the victory.
The offense was as good as advertised in this game. Joe Ganz had a very good game. He showed poise and leadership. He was able to run away from the pass rush and extend the play. He threw for about 345 yards on only 20 completions.
The offensive line looked dominant most of the game as they protected the quarterback and opened up holes for the running back core. Marlon Lucky ran with confidence and determination this game, which is a good sign for the Cornhuskers.
The defense had a solid game. They had a good first half but struggled in the second. The defensive line was aggressive and was able to get after the Bronco's quarterback and really cause him problems. But in the second half the secondary got confused with the blitzes and were often out of position. This allowed the Western Michigan receivers to find wide open gaps and eventually score.
The Huskers had some questions after this game, but nonetheless it was victory for Bo, and for the state of Nebraska.
