Jayson Werth agreed to a seven-year, $126 million contract today with the Washington Nationals. In doing so, he decided to pick money over winning.

It is no surprise that Werth wanted a huge pay day. In spring training he said that he waited his entire career for this season. But what Werth left behind could be his last chance to play on a contending team.

Sure, seven years is a long time and the Nationals could become a contender during that time. But the Phillies are a contender now.
