Milestone Day For Yankees

Matt OffermannCorrespondent ISeptember 2, 2008

Today was a great day for Yankee fans everywhere. Not only did Mussina get win number 17, but Joba had a great outing late in the game.

The Yankees beat the Rays 7-2 today at Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay. Mike Mussina was the winning hurler as he went six strong innings. Mike allowed the only two Ray runs while giving up 10 hits, and fanning eight, and walking only one.

The victory puts the moose only 33 away from 300 wins. This was win number 267 and put Mike all alone in 34th all time moving past Bob Feller and Eppa Rixey. The win against Tampa was his 19th of his career which he is now tied with knuckleballer Tim Wakefield with 19 against Tampa Bay all time.

On the offensive side Alex Rodriguez went two for three with his 30th home run of the year. This was number 548 and it tied A-Rod with Mike Schmidt for 12th all-time.

Xavier Nady also had a home run and two RBI's in the game as well as Johnny Damon Legged out a triple.

Joba Chamberlin, who was only just activated earlier today got some work in as he went in for 1.1 inning while allowing just one hit and one walk. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come for the Bronx Bombers.
