Chick-fil-A Bowl 2010: Florida State Seminoles vs. South Carolina Gamecocks
Chick-fil-A Bowl 2010 seems lined up, as bowl organizers said they would definitely select the loser of the ACC title game, which turned out to be the Florida State Seminoles. Joining them will be an SEC team, and it now looks to be South Carolina bound for the Georgia Dome and a date with the Seminoles on December 31st.
The Chick-fil-A organizers announced they guaranteed selecting the ACC runner-up, sucking out the drama. Rumbles have emerged about Florida being selected for the Outback Bowl, which explains how South Carolina ends up playing in Atlanta on New Year's Eve.
Steve Spurrier will lead the Gamecocks into action looking to redeem themselves after a poor showing in the SEC Championship Game, where Auburn had their way with South Carolina and won the SEC title in convincing fashion. South Carolina enjoyed a strong season overall, though, winning some big games, such as at Florida and against Alabama.
Florida State got themselves into the ACC title game but had to play without quarterback Christian Ponder, out with injury. If he can't play in this bowl game, I think South Carolina will win going away. Florida State needs Ponder under center to succeed, so his health will be a big factor.
Ultimately, I think South Carolina comes out on top in this game, but an upset wouldn't shock me. If you think the Gamecocks are poised to be upset by an ACC team, read more here at College Football Bowl Projections: 10 Teams Ripe For An Upset.
