Sun Bowl 2010: Miami Hurricanes vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Sun Bowl 2010 could shape up as a television rating nirvana for the bowl's organizers, as expectations currently stand that the Miami Hurricanes will be tabbed to face off against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on December 31st in El Paso, Texas.

Both teams would head into the bowl with 7-5 records, although under different circumstances. Miami coming off an embarrassing loss to South Florida that cost head coach Randy Shannon his job. That game was directly after a disappointing and sloppy loss to Virginia Tech.

Notre Dame is coming in from a different angle, having rallied to win against USC to finish up a tidy three-game winning streak that also included wins over Utah and Army. And was all done without key players Kyle Rudolph and Dane Crist.

Now these two teams will bring their large national followings and high-profile programs together in El Paso to play one of the more storied bowl games left on the national stage. I expect this to be a balanced, entertaining game on New Year's Eve, and I expect Miami to ultimately prevail, in what should be a close game.

Speaking of the Miami Huricanes, their head coaching search is front and center, and check out this article about potential candidate Jon Gruden: NFL's Jon Gruden to Miami: Is It Realistic and What Are Others Saying?
