Independence Bowl 2010: Air Force Falcons vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Independence Bowl 2010 will feature the Air Force Falcons for certain, as they accepted an invitation to represent the Mountain West earlier this week. The ACC tie-in, though, is a very cloudy picture at this point, thanks to a three-way tie for third place in the conference, as well as the four teams tied with 4-4 conferenc records.
I am guessing that Georgia Tech will end up in the Independence Bowl to take on Air Force, thanks to their geographic proximity to the bowl's site, Shreveport, Louisiana. The game will take place at Independence Stadium on December 27th.
Air Force had a decent year in the Mountain West, closing the year with three straight wins after stumbling through a rough stretch against TCU, Utah and San Diego State. They are very much a step below those three fellow conference teams, but should pose a threat to their potential ACC opponent.
Georgia Tech slumped to a 6-6 overall record, closing the year with a disappointing loss to Georgia in their traditional rivalry game. I don't think the Yellow Jackets, despite their struggles, will lose to a Mountain West team, particularly Air Force. I see Georgia Tech winning the Independence Bowl, should they land there.
