Independence Bowl 2010: North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Air Force Falcons
The Independence Bowl for 2010 will be played on December 27th, and it looks like it's going to be the Air Force Falcons against the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Air Force has actually already accepted an invite, so they'll definitely be there. They get there by virtue of being third in the Mountain West. They've played in two Independence Bowls, and won both of them.
The other team is the seventh selection from the ACC. This is up in the air right now, but the 7-5 Tar Heels are one possibility.
The matchup to watch in this one would be whether or not North Carolina is capable of stopping Air Force's studly rushing attack. They're second in the nation with 3,815 rushing yards on the season, and have also scored 40 touchdowns on the ground, which is bettered by only Nevada and Wisconsin.
North Carolina allows more than 130 yards on the ground every game, so they'll have their hands full.
I'm going to take Air Force in this one. They've faced some very tough competition this year, and they've still managed an 8-4 record. They'll win.
