I'm starting another random series called 'Six Reasons'. In this series, I will make a prediction and give as many as six reasons as to why it should happen.

The first edition kicks off with "Why Manchester United should trash (atleast defeat) Liverpool at Anfield"...

  • Manchester United's new signing : Dimitar Berbatov. Berbatov is top class striker, he's already proved his potential at Spurs but he will get better service at Manchester United (with the quality of Scholes and Co) which should make him even more deadly.
  • Tevez, Rooney and Berbatov...A deadly combination. They probably won't start together but I hope Sir Alex finds a way of letting them do so. Unfortunately, Ronaldo is missing but the Red Devils can except a true feast never the less.
  • Fernando Torres is injured and out for upto three weeks which will make the Reds very weak upfront. (Probably even Steven Gerrard will be out due to an injury)
  • Robbie Keane is low on confidence due to his lack of goals and with Ferdinand and Vidic standing strong, he shouldn't be getting one soon.
  • United's recent results against Liverpool are all in favour of the Red Devils, a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford with Ronaldo, Nani and Wes Brown scoring. The last two league matches played between the bitter rivals at Anfield were both won by Manchester United. Tevez scored in 1-0 victory last season while O'Shea did the same in the season before the last one.
  • Lastly, this might sound a little cheeky but I need United to boost my ranking on the Bleacher Report Fantasy Football League...

That's a wrap for this edition of 'Six Reasons'.

Some humor there but serious reasons there as well...

Keep an eye out for another edition, very soon...

    Hi Salaar,

Liked your articles! I am a huge Manchester United fan, with Berbatov and absence of Torres, i am pretty sure your prediction will be correct.

By the way, I also cover English Premier League games on my blog but not as much on bleacher.

Looking forward to reading more of your articles!

Good article Salaar, I really can't see Liverpool getting anything whatsoever from their game against United for the reasons you mentioned.

Great reasons, all true. 3-0 again? Who knows, I'll never forget my first time at Old Trafford, 2002-3 season, thrashed the pool 4-0.

Another series, jeez, they keep coming. Nice one mate, you got something special for the big 400?

i be making my prediction. I actually dun think it would be 3-0 or 4-0. Think they probably need some time to gel as a team, but Rooney is getting closer and closer to scoring. I wouldnt bet against him scoring against liverpool.

I would say it would 2-1 if Gerrard plays or 2-0 without him :)

    It wouldn't be 3 or 4-0 because it's at Anfield, but they'll probably lose 1 or 2-0...

Don't agree.. if this was Everton or Portsmouth away, you wouldn't be emphatically suggesting stuff like this.. if Man Utd share your confidence - you might even be beaten in the game.

Typical bravado and bluster from Man Utd fans.

You might well win the game, and are certainly favourites, but do you have to be so arrogant about it? Do those Man Utd fans who share the traits above not realise that this is one of the main reasons why Man Utd are so hated by many other fans?

    1) Berbatov's record against Liverpool - Played 7, Scored 1 - Oooh scary.

    2) Rooney's record against Liverpool - Played 12, Scored 1 - Oooh double scary!
Tevez record against Liverpool - Played 2, Scored 1 - Could be a 'bogey' player, too early to tell
    All 3 v Liverpool - Played 21, Scored 3 - Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh, I can really 'except' a true feast! oops

    3) Liverpool can still win without Gerrard and Torres, it will be more difficult obviously, but far from impossible.

    4) Keane is indeed low on confidence, but he will score some time, why not in this game? Vidic always has a mare at Anfield, its the only place he ever looks dodgy for some reason.

Keane's record v Man Utd: Played 17, Scored 1, he is defo due a goal! But then his record is almost as good as Rooney, Berbatov and Tevez combined.

    5) You do seem to have a 'hoodoo' on us at the moment, but all runs come to an end at some point!

    6) Thats not exactly a reason is it. Maybe you should have called this section 5 reasons instead, if you are struggling that much to come up with 6.

Not trying to sound negative here Simon as I agree with most things you say. But you stated Berbatov, Rooney's poor record against liverpool as a reason why they wouldnt do so well as Salaar suggested but then you use Keane who himself has a similar dismal record against United as a reason why he could possibly score some goals.

Aint that a bit of a contradition..? Just something i noticed, thats all....

I am well aware of the contradiction Salomon, but when you are presented with an article of such bias, sometimes the only form of defence is to be equally biased.

My reporting of Keane's stats were slightly tongue in cheek anyway.

Talk about contradicting yourself, Simon...You laid Keane even lower..I was expecting a bit of a revolt from Liverpool fans but this is no prediction or infact this isn't even my opinion..If you read the article clearly and especially the headline..it states..Why United SHOULD Trash Liverpool...Which would indicate to any sane reader that these were the reasons for United to go out there and get all three points..I'm NOT saying they will...ONCE AGAIN..This is why they SHOULD...get it?

      Its not rocket science Salaar.

I used Keane's stats in a tongue in cheek manner, they are not there to back up why he will score or should score, they are merely there to add some humour to my comment, obviously his record is pretty abysmal, which is why I commented 'he is defo due a goal!'.

I am also aware that you article is about why Utd should, beat Liverpool, but it still doesn't stop the fact that your crowing about Berbatov, Tevez, and Rooney, is not matched in the stats, therefore it is not justifiable as a reason United should beat Liverpool.

Brown, Silvestre and Ferdinand had as good a scoring record against Liverpool as those 3 players.

I wouldn't get too excited...Liverpool still have top quality in their ranks...Ryan Babel, Robbie Keane, Javier Mascherano and even Dirk Kuyt can do some damage.

The past two seasons we have outplayed you but you still manage to beat us in the closing minutes - the tables could always turn... :D

The only damage Mascherano will do is with one of his dirty tackles or by running his mouth again!
Dirk Kuyt wont do any damage in the league, he only scores in Europe. Babel is dangerous but not consistent.
And yes I agree, you outplayed us in 06/07 and we scored in the last minute – John O’Shea what a legend!! But Last year you had a lot of the ball but made no chances, Vidic and Rio were comfortable and Anderson had Stevie Gerraaaaard in his pocket. We easily won that match with a goal in the first half. So how did we win that on in the last few minutes?
I’m fairly confident of a win. Unless Danny Murphy makes an unexpectedly sudden reappearance at Anfield I don’t see Liverpool beating us.

Would you really predict a Merseyside Derby? This coming between these two teams is always ferocious, although I do agree, Man U have had the better hand in the last few meetings. That said, we have a nice new brazillian striker in place of Torres.

It's time to put Babel in the spotlight, put him up front with keane and see what happens. Whatever the case maybe it will be someone's coming out party.

Good article, as much as I hate to see United do anything well, you are right. Liverpool do not have the talent to stand in United's way. I think Liverpool are going to be the club that will have to be vey worried about being overtaken in the top 4. City have made far more strides this season than Liverpool. The scousers have financial troubles, ownership squabbles and numerous other problems. I think all mancs, red and blue will love it when the Scouse are sent OUT of the top 4.

That's right Jon, the only thing Masch will do is a "dirty" tackle or "run his mouth".............hmmm pot calling kettle????
You have the worst tackler in the EPL on your team, Scholes.....and as for running mouths, your team are the Kings of that.

Deep down I have hopes of the team pulling together without Stevie and nando and shoving your cocky-egotistical attitudes up your arses and stuffing you 3-0.............but I am more realistic than that.

no actually gerrard is the worst tackler in the league- he is the "king of the two footed tackle"
scholes mis-times his tackles unlike masch and stevie g who are malicious! and to be fair what does mascherano actually do other than that? i know he's a great player but he isnt capable of hurting our team in anything but the literal sense...

no my friend the scousers are the worst at running mouths... "This is our year" (1991-????) you lot come out with the same old tripe every year. Im just gonna laugh when citeh beat you to fourth spot this year

Okay so then tell me some of the "two footed tackles" he has made recently that have been dirty??? How many times has he been sent off in the last few years??? Your just making shit up.......Scholes is a great player but an awful tackler, even Utd fans can admit that!!
So if Masch is terrible in his tackles and doesn't do anything else...then why is he a "great player" Your words mate!!

When I talk about running your mouths I meant players not fans..........you know when a free kick goes against you and 6 of your lot surround the ref and moan and complain. Then Rooney tells the ref to fuck off and nothing ever gets done!!

Gary this is sill really isnt it?

i Know Scholesy isnt a good tackler, but gerrard is hardly an angel- remember that tackle in the merseyside derby on tony hibbert i think? almost as bad a kuyt last year and crouch on obi mikel...

masch is an effective player cos all he has to do a be a dirty little git (which comes naturally), breaking up play, giving away infuriatingly soft fouls that stop momentum. so effective rather than great. what i meant was he has little technical skill or attacking talent when i said he doesnt do anything else.

and the only time 6 united player have surrounded the ref was against boro - bout ten years ago now. that was bad i have to admit. but now our players rarely surround the ref. yes rooney mouths off which isnt acceptable but gerrard always does it so does masch... remember him at OT last year. he told bennett to fuck off 15 times ove 3 or 4 separate occasions.

the only reason united have an rep for surrounding the ref is cos of the media highlight around the d'urso incident against boro... since then chelsea and liverpool have perfected the art.

There is no point trying to argue objectively on this issue Gary, Jon is clearly blinded by red tinted specs if he thinks that United players have only surronded the ref on one occasion.

Apparently Man Utd players 'rarely surround the ref'! That's right up there in the all time Bleacher Report wild claims.

(I am not saying Liverpool don't do it either, because they do on ocassion, pretty much all teams do)

    Salaar,

after reading and re-reading your article and thinking about it for a time, I have come up with my own reasons for why Man United SHOULD NOT trash Liverpool at Anfield...

Reason 1: Pepe Reina, this three time consecutive golden gloves winner is a very powerful force when in the net.

Reason 2: Steve Gerrard, who as of right now is well on tract to be fit for the match after his surgery and inspire Liverpool with his magic.

Reason 3: No Ronaldo, that being said most likely Torres will not be able to play but we shall see.

Reason 4: This the best squad that Liverpool have fielded in many years. We have some of the best midfielders in the world: Gerrard, Alonso, and Mascherano (who I believe has learned from his mistake last season at OT) Our defense is top notch, and we have some of the best strikers in the league (not just Torres and Keane, but look at Babel, he is not as feared as the aforementioned pair but all he needs is just an opening as Chelsea learned during the second leg of the semi-finals).

Reason 5: This is Anfield. Anfield is a special place, with the 12th man behind Liverpool anything can happen. Most of your results in recent years at Anfield were 1-0 with your big win coming from OT when we were a man down.

Reason 6: very similar to your reason 6, I need Liverpool to win for my league as well. :)
