Five games in the NHL tonight, including a big game between San Jose and Detroit. Will the Sharks take care of business on home ice? Can Stamkos get back on track in his home town? Will the Thrashers keep it rolling? Should be an interesting night on the ice.

Tampa Bay at Toronto

Steven Stamkos has been slumping recently, but this is a homecoming of sorts for him (he grew up in the Toronto area). The Leafs are having trouble generating offense lately, and the Lightning own them recently. I like Stamkos and Tampa Bay to get things going early and often tonight.

Pick: Tampa Bay 3 Toronto 0

Phoenix at Nashville

The Predators are struggling recently having dropped five of their last seven games, while the Coyotes just got thrashed by the Ducks. I like the Coyotes to bounce back here against the Preds. We saw earlier in the season that Phoenix matches up well against Nashville, and with some of the Predators top contributors banged up it will be tough for them to generate offense against a tough Coyote defense.

Pick: Phoenix 2 Nashville 1

St. Louis at Chicago

The Blues are coming off of a pair of defeats at the hands of the Stars. They played two emotional games in which they let leads slip away. Couple that with the fact that they struggle on the road and this does not look like a good spot for them. The Blackhawks are starting to get it rolling right now, and they should continue that tonight against the Blues.

Pick: Chicago 4 St. Louis 2

Atlanta at Colorado

The Thrashers are one of the most underrated teams in the NHL right now. Riding a hot goalie, and some strong play on the back end, Atlanta has been able to string together a series of wins recently. Meanwhile, the Avalanche just lost Chris Stewart to a broken hand. The Thrashers are the better team and should take care of business tonight.

Pick: Atlanta 5 Colorado 1

Detroit at San Jose

The game of the night features a rematch of the Western Conference playoff series in which the Sharks took down the wings. The Red Wings are one of the league’s best teams right now, but they come into this contest a bit banged up. For the Sharks, this is the lone home game sandwiched between two tough road trips. The magnitude of this game and home ice advantage tilt this one in San Jose’s favor.

Pick: San Jose 5 Detroit 4
