BCS Rankings: What Do We Know About the Latest BCS Standings?
It's reasonably accurate to say, a half-hour or so before the official BCS standings are announced, that we know this much:
Oregon and Auburn should be No. 1 and No. 2 and will play for the national championship if both teams take care of business in their final games—Oregon at Oregon State and Auburn vs. South Carolina in the SEC Championship Game.
TCU should be No. 3. The Horned Frogs' season is complete and they should be locked into that spot and headed to the Rose Bowl—unless Oregon or Auburn lose next week. If that happens,TCU slides up and plays in the national championship game.
Stanford should move up to No. 4 thanks to losses by the two teams just ahead of them in last week's BCS rankings, Boise State and LSU. According to BCS rules, a team in the top four has to be invited to a BCS bowl. Stanford's season is over, so the Cardinal should stay locked into the No. 4 spot.
