Recently, head coach Jim Zorn expressed that second-year veteran Stephon Heyer may at some point take over at the starting right tackle position in front of long-time Redskin Jon Jansen. Heyer has shown to be capable at the position this Preseason and in Jansen's place last season, especially when he did well against future Hall of Fame defensive end Michael Strahan late in the season.
Jansen suffered a broken and dislocated ankle in the first game of the 2007 season, and he's been trying to get back into the flow of things during Preseason. Honestly, at times, Jansen has looked horrible this Preseason.
I was worried Jansen would remain the starter regardless of his performance for two reasons:
1.) He has been a Redskin longer than any other active player.
2.) He received a contract extension before the 2007 season.
Now, however, Stephon Heyer has been named the starter by Coach Zorn. If Jansen wants his spot back, he'll have to work for it.
