Boxing, Editorial, Heavyweight

Boxing is a sport, in the American limelight, that is fading. I am a fan of boxing. I love Showtime, HBO, and Friday Night Fights just like everyone else. I refuse to spend that much to watch any contest on PPV, either boxing, MMA, or Jerry Springer uncut.

I think that if you want to get people interested in a sport like this again, you have to promote on national television. College football rules Saturday, while NASCAR and NFL rule Sunday.

Make it a real Friday Night Fight. Televise this thing for all the country to see on NBC, ABC or CBS. Hype it. Bring it to life for people who have all but forgotten the sport because they think it is just a bunch of overpaid thugs getting to punch each other and get paid for it. I know people feel that way because I've talked to them.

What we need now is a real champion, a figure that can step into this light and be everything this sport needs. A face, a name, a legend. Where have the George Foremans, Sonny Listons, Muhammad Alis, Joe Fraziers, Joe Louises, and Rocky Marcianos of the USA gone?

Somebody please help this sport. Please help restore America's confidence in boxing and our future with it.
