Free Football Picks: Oakland Raiders Will Beat the Miami Dolphins on Sunday

Two teams that are clinging to their postseason hopes will meet up in the East Bay as the Raiders host the Dolphins.
The Fins are coming off an extended 10 days of rest after being shut out against Chicago at home, while Oakland’s three-game winning streak ended with a tough loss at Heinz field against the Steel Curtain.
Lines for this game are yet to be posted, but you can check our NFL odds throughout the week to find them as soon as they are available.
The Raiders have demonstrated their ability to win games with a solid rushing attack, but at times have faded away when big plays are needed. With the AFC West still undecided, every game has playoff implications and Oakland is still in control of its own destiny.
As for Miami, its hopes for a playoff berth are fading quickly after dropping three in a row and now sit four games back of both the Patriots and the Jets in the AFC East with six games remaining, two of which are against New England and New York on the road.
While they have suffered injuries over the past several seasons, this year’s battery and bruising seems to be too much for the team to overcome. The team is down to its third-string QB, Tyler Thigpen, who after looking good in his first outing in relief against Tennessee, was absolutely wretched as the offense couldn’t gain yards and the defense eventually broke down in a 16-0 loss to Chicago.
Thigpen completed just 17-of-29 for only 148 yards and one interception in that outing, and without a solid passing game the formidable rushing tandem of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams was rendered ineffective. To make matters worse WR Brandon Marshall is questionable for this one, and that won’t help Thigpen’s chances.
Defensively, the Dolphins have been mediocre at best with their strength being their ability to stop the opposition's run, but have proved vulnerable against the pass.
That probably will play a tad to their favor as Oakland’s success has come by way of its rushing attack.
While the QB position remains a revolving door between Jason Campbell and Bruce Gradkowski, the dynamic duo of running backs Michael Bush and Darren McFadden continues slicing its way through some of the best defenses in the NFL. The two have combined for over 1,000 yards and 10 of the Raiders' 25 touchdowns.
Oakland is 8-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover, while Miami is 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games away from Sun Life Stadium. They have also won four of their last five meetings in Oakland.
Matt’s Free Prediction: Oakland 24, Miami 20
The Dolphins must take advantage of the 25th-ranked Oakland run defense, while trying to stop the Raiders' second-ranked running game in the league that is registering 152.1 yards per game on the ground.
While both Dolphins and the Raiders are both strong against the pass—Miami is ranked fifth in the league allowing just 196.8 passing yards per game while Oakland is a tad better, ranking fourth allowing 193.2—this game is going to be a ground battle in which Oakland has the advantage.
