Where Are They Now: WWE Superstars of the Early 2000's

Ever wonder whatsome of your favorite WWE superstars from the early 2000's were up to after their departures from WWE?

Here is an update on some of our favorites during the last days of the WWF years.

Steve Blackman

The "Lethal Weapon" was a six-time WWF Hardcore Champion, and was know for his martial arts style moves and coming to the ring with nunchucks. In 2002, after a tag-team with Grand Master Sexay, Blackman was released after suffering from an injury.

Since then, Blackman has opened a self-defense school in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and also promotes Ground 'n Pound apparel, with Ken Shamrock, for professional fighters. Blackman's more recent TV appearances include the Nancy Grace Show, after the Benoit murder-suicide, and the Raw 15th Anniversary Special, where he was eliminated by Flash Funk in the 15-man battle royal. In 2007, the 44-year old Blackman became a father for the first time.

Godfather

He wrestled as Papa Shango and Kama Mustafa, among other personas. However, Charles Wright will always be remembered best as the Godfather. He is a former 2-time Intercontinental Champion, and 3-time Tag Team Champion with Bull Buchanan.

Nowadays, if there is ever a wedding in WWE, or something similar, don't be surprised if the Godfather makes a special appearance, and tries to tempt the groom away from the bride with his "hos". After leaving full-time wrestling, Godfather became the manager of the Cheetah's gentlemans club.

Molly Holly

Nora Greenwald's first major push in the WWF came as the cousin of Crash and Hardcore Holly. Who could forget how she and Spike Dudley fell for one another amidst the feuding of the Dudley Boyz and the Holly Cousins. Molly would go on to be Hardcore Champion and a 2-time Women's Champion. In later years, she would turn heel, and eventually have her head shaved.

Although the doors are open for a WWE return, Greenwald keeps herself busy with many post-career activities. She works for Minnesota Teen Challenge, performs charity work, and invests in real estate, among also spending time with her family.

Albert

Matt Bloom never seemed to be able to find a niche in WWF/E. He was Droz's personal tattooist, one half of T & A with Test, one third of X-Factor with X-Pac and Justin Credible, the Hip Hop Hippo with Scotty 2 Hotty, and A-Train, before finally being released from WWE in 2004.

Since then, Bloom has tried his luck on the independent circuit, and has become famous in Japan wrestling as Giant Bernard. He has shaved his famous body hair and gotten new tattoos. In 2005, Matt Bloom also got married.

Gangrel

David Heath was a member of Undertaker's Ministry, and also the leader of the Brood. The Brood featured Edge and Christian at first, and then the Hardy Boyz. The funny thing is that Edge, Christian, Matt, and Jeff have all gone on to become champions and household names, and Gangrel became somewhat of a journeyman in the business under different " Gothic" gimmicks, depending where he wrestled.

On June 13, 2008, Heath was married to his third wife. He was originally brought back to WWE to wrestle as Kevin Thorne's tag team partner, but released before making it on to TV. Now, the 39-year old father of two and grandson to one (his grandson was born ironically on Halloween), is a director in the adult film industry. Gangrel was also a participant in the Raw 15th Anniversary Battle Royal.

X-Pac

Famous for being a member of the NWO and D-Generation X, Sean Waltman is a former Tag Team Champ, and has also held the European, Light Heavyweight, and Cruiserweight belts. Waltman was released from his WWE contract in 2002.

Waltman has since wrestled in TNA, among other independent promotions. Former WWE star Juventud Guerrera recently reported that Waltman had attempted suicide while working in AAA in Mexico. Waltman has had a rocky road since leaving WWE. Apart form a failed relationship with former diva, Chyna, he has been found hanging from his neck in his apartment after mixing alcohol and anti-depressants, and has checked into rehab.

Chyna

Joanie Laurer started off as Chyna, the bodyguard for D-Generation X. She was able to branch out and become a popular singles competitor. Chyna is a former Women's Champion. Probably more impressive is that she has been Intercontinental Champion on three separate occasions. In 2001, Chyna left WWF for personal reasons.

Since then, we've seen Chyna's relationship with X-Pac, and we've seen her as a member of the Surreal Life cast. She has also been in a few movies, and was also part of the cast of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, where she admitted to having a bad relationship with her family.

In this session, I was not able to cover all the superstars that I wanted. If this article receives positive feedback, I will continue with other installments when i have more time to write.
