The Boston Celtics Lose a Vital Member of Their Bench
Late in the second quarter against the New Jersey Nets, Celtics guard Delonte West went in for a layup and landed on his right wrist very hard. Immediately, he was in immense pain and was attended to by the trainers and team doctor. His wrist was reportedly so disfigured that his own teammates had to look away. It has been reported that he has broken his right wrist and will not be returning to the game for a while. The only consolation here is that Delonte is a lefty.
Marquis Daniels has been called upon to run the point, however, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen are also sharing the duties. Nate Robinson has been running the point while Rondo sits with a hamstring tweak, but the Celtics have chosen to go with Marquis Daniels due to a match-up advantage.
It is also unknown how long Rondo will be out. He was a game-time decision for tonight's game against the Nets, but Doc Rivers decided he wasn't ready. The injury isn't expected to sideline Rondo for too long.
In the meantime, the Celtics will have to rely heavily on Nate Robinson and may even need to turn to rookie Avery Bradley to assist with the offense. Von Wafer will also see more minutes at shooting guard in order to fill the gap.
