Let's face it, most people continue to have a rather negative attitude toward mixed martial arts fighters. The unenlightened view them as nothing more than cretins jacked up on adrenaline and too much testosterone.
It's refreshing when an MMA organization and its athletes get behind something that no one can say anything negative about.
Strikeforce recently announced that they would partner with Toys for Tots at their December 4 event at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, hoping to provide local underprivileged children with gifts this holiday season.
Marine Corps Sergeant Gavin Lewis who manages the Toys for Tots program in the St. Louis area spoke about the partnership. “Everything we collect stays in St. Louis,” said Lewis. “It’s about local people helping local children, which is a phenomenal thing."
The December 4 Strikeforce card will be headlined by a Dan Henderson vs. Renato "Babalu" Sobral bout. The Henderson vs. Sobral fight will have title shot implications as the winner will be in line for a shot at Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante.
Lewis added, “When considering what to bring, fans should think about what would make their own child, niece or nephew happy."
MMA fans attending the event are urged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the event.
