Canadiens-Thrashers: Habs Play Better...and Lose
Icon Sports MediaThe Montreal Canadiens are having a bizarre season.

One night the Habs play awful and win; the next night they play better and lose.

That's exactly what happened on Saturday—the Habs played a solid game against the Atlanta Thrashers but fell in a shootout.

Final score: Atlanta 3 - Montreal 2.

Sergei Kostitsyn seems a good fit on the Habs' first line. The young winger continues to improve alongside Saku Koivu and Chris Higgins, and yesterday scored his second goal in his last two games.

Vyacheslav Kozlov and Eric Perrin both scored for Atlanta, giving the Thrashers a 2-1 lead going into the third period. Alex Kovalev tied the game at 2-2 during the third with a powerful blast past goaltender Kari Lehtonen.

The Russian now has 15 goals this season to lead the Habs in scoring.

The shootout saw Atlanta escape with the victory. The Thrashers are an impressive 4-1 in shootouts this season.

The defeat dropped the Habs' shootout record to 2-5.

There will be no rest for the Habs as they play tonight in Dallas. Montreal will try to break the December 23rd Curse—the Canadiens haven’t won on this date since 1945!
