AL MVP has been awarded to Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers.
The Rangers outfielder helped lead his team all the way to the World Series this season for the first time in franchise history but eventually fell to the San Francisco Giants in five games.
For Hamilton, it was a tremendous accomplishment in his career which was derailed by alcohol and drug abuse problems.
"I would say a 99 percent chance that this would never happen," Hamilton told the Associated Pres. "I mean, honestly, I think a lot of people would agree with that."
He became the fifth Rangers player to win the MVP award, the last winner was Alex Rodriguez.
"It's an absolutely great honor," Hamilton said on a conference call to reporters on Tuesday. "There's a lot of players in the league [qualified] to get this accomplishment -- this award speaks volume. To be voted on by the writers, I really appreciate that. It's awesome, but at the same time I told some of you guys earlier in the year, if I could give up the MVP to go into the playoffs and win in the playoffs I would definitely do that. To do both, I just thank God for that."
