First Andy Carroll was linked with a £20 million move to White Hart Lane; then Mike Williamson was linked with a £four million move to North London.

And now the UK press is in overdrive with rumours that popular left back Jose Enrique is a £eight million target.

The Spanish star has developed into a fan favorite at St James after being one of the stand out performers for United in the Championship.

And the left back has proved the performance was no fluke, beginning this season in fine form. Like with Williamson and Carroll it is no real surprise to hear his name linked with a "bigger club."

Rumours suggest Harry Redknapp is keen to sign the full back and play him just behind winger Gareth Bale.

After sticking with the club following relegation and seemingly enjoying life on Tyenside with summer reports suggesting he was keen to commit to a new contract at St James, a move seems unlikely.

The full back nicknamed "the Bull" also revealed he would be happy to spend five more years at United:

I have always said the same thing, when I signed here, I signed for five years. I have two years more—this year and another one—but I am already thinking about the future and hoping that my stay is longer than that. I would like to stay for another five years if it possible. I am very happy here and I hope this season will be very good for us.”

But with Enrique contracted only until the end of next season and no news on a new contract this season, I worry United owner Mike Ashley may look to cash in on the popular Spaniard in the winter window.

Big money moves are rare in the January transfer window but if rumours are to be believed it sounds as if half of the United team will be playing in the Whites of Spurs in January! Lets hope not.
