Identity Crisis: The Top 20 Female Athletes Who Would Rather Model
We could call this list the Anna Kournikova All-Stars.
Each of these women are technically athletes, however it seems like they would all rather get their picture taken for a living over doing the sport that got them where they are today.
But hey, can you blame them?
Is there anyone that we missed? Leave us a comment.
Jessica Gysin is a former college volleyball star who is making the transition to beach volleyball.
Granted, beach volleyball isn't a mainstream sport, with Gysin playing, who knows how far the sport can go?
Amanda Beard went from a teddy bear-toting teen to a full-blown sex symbol in a short period of time.
Beard did admit that she battled depression after feeling the pressure of being a sex symbol.
But that doesn't change the fact that she belongs on this list.
Chemmy Alcott has been the face of British skiing since 2001, and what a face it is.
The 28-year-old has been racing since she was three years old and will continue to be a world-class athlete.
She also has an awesome name. I mean, when was the last time you met a Chemmy?
Cheryl Bernard became well known during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics as a member of the silver medal-winning Canadian Curling team.
She was known as the "Curling Cougar" and for good reason.
Hannah Teter is one of the faces of women's snowboarding. With a gold in Turin and a silver in Vancouver, Teter really is one of the best snowboarders in the world right now.
Upon appearing in Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue this year, everyone was treated to just how attractive Hannah Teter really is.
Elena Dementieva was a professional tennis player from 1998 until October of this year. She was ranked as high as No. 3 in the world, but really her career took off when she developed a rivalry with Serena Williams.
Dementieva is about to have a lot more time on her hands, so here's hoping she decides to do some more modeling.
If you were to see Anni Friesinger in her speed skating attire, you would think that there is no way she belongs on a list of hot athletes.
But upon seeing her scantily clad and made up, you would realize that she very much belongs on this list.
Friesinger is also a world-class athlete. She has three gold medals the four Olympics that she has competed in.
It's not every day that the world gives us a hot softball player. But Jennie Finch is the epitome of a hot softball player.
After a legendary college career, Finch has been pitching professionally and for the US National team.
Unfortunately, Finch got married in 2005 to major league baseball pitcher Casey Daigle. But as long as she does photo shoots in her bikini, I won't complain.
Anna Semenovich is one of the few athletes on this list who has realized her true calling. Getting paid to look hot.
Semenovich is a former ice dancer that became a full-time model in 2001.
She also is considered a Russian pop star, but that isn't why we like her.
Caroline Wozniacki is just 20 years old, but even at this young age she has started to learn that she has a future in modeling, after her tennis career is over, of course.
However, if she has learned anything from Anna Kournikova, it's that people pay more attention to models than tennis players.
Allison Stokke is a collegiate pole vaulter at Cal. She is also one of the most attractive athletes in the world right now.
It is tough to project where Stokke, currently a sociology major, is going to end up when she finishes school, but one can only hope it is modeling somewhere.
Serena Williams has always had a passion for fashion. Her outfits on the court have almost been as widely publicized as her tennis skills.
Now that isn't to say Serena isn't a great tennis player, she is great. But she has never been secretive about her desire to model.
Natalie Gulbis is considered a sex symbol on the LPGA tour, whether the LPGA likes that or not.
In 2005, Gulbis released a calendar that included some pictures of golfing and some pictures of her in bikinis. The LPGA thought the calendar was inappropriate and refused to sell it at LPGA events.
In 2006, Gulbis started writing an advice column for FHM magazine.
More modeling appears to be in her future.
Anna Rawson was actually a model before she was a pro golfer. She started modeling at the age of 16 and has kept doing some modeling on the side ever since.
Rawson is currently on the LPGA tour but has not had a ton of success since getting her tour card in 2008.
So maybe she will go back to modeling full time in the near future.
Maria Sharapova is someone who needs no introduction. She burst onto the tennis scene in 2004 winning Wimbledon.
Sharapova has long been compared to Anna Kournikova, however she has actually had a successful tennis career.
After getting engaged to Los Angeles Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic earlier this year and struggling with injuries, it seems like her tennis career is coming to a close, meaning her modeling career will soon be taking off.
Allison Baver won the bronze medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver in short-track speed skating.
At the age of 30, it seems likely that her Olympic days are behind her.
However, at the age of 30, she is poised to start the peak of her modeling career.
Gretchen Bleiler is the female version of Shaun White. She has dominated women's halfpipe at the X-games since 2003, winning gold four times and silver once.
As a professional snowboarder, Bleiler is no stranger to modeling for the brands that sponsor her. She has appeared in ads for K2, Oakley, as well as commercials for the 2006 Winter Olympics.
Look for her to continue to model, because that's how professional skiers and snowboarders make their money.
Lindsey Vonn is actually the only athlete on this list that could be considered the top athlete in her sport.
Vonn is the reigning World Cup Champion in Alpine Skiing. She also won a gold medal in the downhill at the 2010 Olympics.
However, like Gretchen Bleiler, Vonn is no stranger to modeling for her sponsors.
Throw in the fact that Vonn has been a hot commodity after her huge year and she seems to be more willing to model.
Danica Patrick is rapidly approaching Anna Kournikova level. She has had minimal success in racing but is always a go-to for hot athlete lists.
The ads and commercials that she has been putting out lately have all played on the fact that she is pretty easy on the eyes.
It's only a matter of time before she is out of racing and into modeling full time.
Sarah Burke is the Gretchen Bleiler of the free-skiing world. She has dominated the women's superpipe event in the X-games since 2005 when it was first instituted. She has won three gold medals and a silver in the five years she has competed in the event.
As I touched on before, Burke has had to do a lot of modeling in order to promote her sponsors.
The reason why she tops this list is because I am a sucker for a girl who has her own signature skis.
