The Calgary Sun/Calgary Herald have reported that the Flames are not going to trade Jarome Iginla and they have informed him of the fact.

Interesting. Personally, I think he should have informed them of the fact as he has a NMC, which means they cannot move him without his permission. Also with his cap hit of $7 million, how many teams would actually want him for the next several years?

Sam Carchidi of Philly.com suggests the Flyers re-acquired defenceman Danny Syvret for depth on the blue line so they can trade away a high priced defenceman.

This could make sense, as they need to create cap space to re-sign some of their other forwards like Daniel Carcillo. However, as they made it to the finals on the strength of their defense, I would not recommend dealing one away unless the deal is unbelievably in their favour.

Tom Gulitti of Northjersey.com reports that all options are on the table for Lou Lamoriello, such as making a trade or firing the head coach. He better find a way to turn around the team fast, or else all hope will be lost for them.

I have complete faith in Lou Lamoriello. I think he is going to do something to save the Devils. I refuse to believe he will fire his head coach as he has stated John's job is safe. However, I must point out that Lamoriello has a history of replacing head coaches and still sustaining success over the long term.

Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported that the Thrashers GM is trying to make a trade. No trades are imminent but he expects to tweak his roster.

I don't expect him to be busy until the trade deadline at which point he will be forced to sell players for draft picks and begin the rebuild.

The Calgary Sun's Eric Francis has reported that the Islanders' inability to win a playoff round since 1993 means John Tavares will leave in 2012 as a free agent.

This is the most ridiculous rumour I have heard in some time. I can't believe he writes this for the Calgary Sun. Tavares has no negotiating power. If someone else offers him a contract and he accepts, then the Islanders have the option to match. Furthermore, how many draft picks can you justifiably give up for Tavares when he hasn't been that good yet?

It has been rumoured for a while that Dustin Penner is available. Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal wonders if the Los Angeles Kings will have interest in him, but stated that he has to improve his offensive production between now and the trade deadline.

This is ridiculous. Dustin Penner is on pace to score 31 goals. Why does he need to increase his production? His cap hit is a very reasonable $4.25 million. Which should also be a reason why the Edmonton Oilers keep him.

Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun reports that the Toronto Maple Leafs and NY Rangers are both interested in Brad Richards, and Mike Ribeiro should they become available. Hornby reports that the Stars are doing above average and may need Richards for a playoff push.

My guess is that the Leafs and Rangers have just told Nieuwendyk that if either of these players are available they are interested, which makes sense because the Leafs need top six forwards while the Rangers just like star players.
